Beetroot
– a Healthy Superfood
Over the last 10 years, it has gained immense popularity due to the interest in healthy eating, social media, and television cooking shows. The well-documented health benefits of beetroot leave no doubt that this food is truly "super."
Beetroot has a long history. The first records date back to Babylon over 3000 years ago, where beets were grown in the hanging gardens, one of the seven wonders of the world. In ancient Rome it was used as a medicine, dye, or aphrodisiac. Its botanical name, Beta, comes from our Celtic ancestors from the word "bett," which means "red."

Beetroot for Health
Nutritional Richness
Beetroot contains vitamins (especially vitamin C), minerals (potassium), and fiber. These nutrients are essential for the proper functioning of our bodies and immune systems. It is also a good source of iron and folates – naturally occurring folic acid.
Support for Cardiovascular Health
Beetroot contains nitrates that can help reduce blood pressure and improve vascular elasticity.
Heart Disease
Betacyanin, the pigment that gives beetroot its color, is an antioxidant. Antioxidants are believed to help reduce the oxidation of LDL cholesterol, thereby protecting artery walls and potentially lowering the risk of heart disease and stroke.
Low Glycemic Index
The sugars in beetroot are almost exclusively in the form of sucrose. These sugars are released slowly into the body during digestion, rather than as a sudden influx of sugar when consuming sweets.
Detoxification and Cleansing
Beetroot has detoxifying effects and helps the body eliminate toxins. It is also good for the liver and kidneys.
Antioxidant Properties
It contains antioxidants that protect cells from damage caused by free radicals. This may help reduce the risk of certain chronic diseases.
Improves Digestion
The fiber in beetroot supports healthy digestion and regular bowel movements.
Mental Health
Beetroot contains betaine, a compound that relaxes the mind and is used in other forms to treat depression. It also contains tryptophan, which is found in chocolate and is believed to promote a sense of well-being.
